It's really stormy here in Belgium right now and my mom always told me that the night I was born was crazy stormy too. I'm hoping for a nice sunny day tomorrow so I can go out and play with my lens! Fingers crossed!

Pre birthday outfit post!
DARLINGZ, Imma be eighteen years old tomorrow, december 9th! I still have to finish my birthday cake with my boyfriend (no, he's not inside the cake!) so it's just a quick post! I'm a little tired from sniffing up all the sugary cake aromas. :-D Since two years ago we make a devils food cake for my birthday (and sometimes for my boy too), a super big, heavy chocolatey cake. I once saw it on Martha Stewart (don't judge!) and I immediately told my boyfriend that that was my dream cake. I enjoy it every time we make it but we only make it twice a year (once for me and once for my man) so that's just enough to not get bored with the taste. I already got myself a wide angle lens for my birthday, I have been saving up my money for a while to get a new lens and I couldn't be happier. I have so much more new things to try out now, photography wise. I'm going to have loads of fun, trust me. Tomorrow I'll get presents from my boyfriend and mom, I'm curious to see what they bought me! I got some fake bright green doc martens from my sis and a gorgeous photography book from one of my brothers. My oldest brother is always very smart and just asks me what I want, every year, so I know he'll get me something glorious. He lives in the U.S. so when it comes to buying presents it's a pretty handy deal. Only when it comes to buying presents though, apart from that it's a shitty deal to have part of your family living somewhere halfway across the world. Anyhoo, I'll do a birthday post soon with all my presents and my cake!

Looking back I'm SO glad I cut my hair again. I loved my little pincurls but my short sharp do is so much more me. Gorgeous haircolors though. I'm still in love with my bright hair. Kids, a word of advice: Don't ever believe your parents when they say you'll grow tired of bright hair. It just doesn't happen. :-D

Christmas wishlist!
Since Anita from Thick Threads tagged me in her christmas wishlist I had to make one too. Because I adore Anita and her blog but also because for a couple of years now, I've lusting after the same exact stuff and I never seem to end up with that stuff. Mainly because we don't give christmas presents in my family (I think because my birthday is already december 9th and my family had no money left over to celebrate christmas too. :-D) but a girl can still dream, right? And chances are I'll eventually coax my boyfriend into buying them for me or I'll coax myself into buying them for me. The list may be a little boring since there's not a whole lot of different stuff in it. But than again it's MY list. :-D Enjoy!

This cameo necklace has been lingering along my mind for the last two years or so and I can't believe I haven't bought it yet since it's not really that expensive. But you know, life happens. :-D I love this necklace because it's so simple, you can wear it with everything and anything and the design is gorgeous. The thickness of the chain the pendant hangs on is perfect too.

Same with this shirt. I've been lusting after it since I found it which is I think a year and a half or so ago. Labyrinth is one of my favorite movies ever and David Bowie is one of my favorite musicians ever. And I'm also the babe with the power. So I just kind of NEED this shirt. Because its awesomeness is meant for me.

A 'The Legend of Zelda' shirt has been on my list for probably eight years or something because I love Zelda like no other. Videogames have always been a part of my life and Zelda is my queen of videogames. The atmosphere, the soundtracks, the humor and characters, I love it all. Don't be surprised if I ever decide to have a Zelda tattoo. I know it's coming somewhere along the line. And I picked this shirt because green is Link's color and it looks bangin' on me. :-D

Speaking of tattoos, a studio ghibli tattoo is probably inevitable too. Totoro is just adorable and it reminds me of the innocence that Miyazaki tries to preserve in his movies. There are more adult themes in most Studio Ghibli movies like war (Grave of the fireflies), coming of age (Whisper of the heart, kiki's delivery service), humans and their struggle with the environment, to live a peaceful life as a part of nature (Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa and the valley of the wind, Castle in the Sky, Ponyo)... but they always know how to make it exciting and fun for the children as well as adults. And of course all the gorgeous artwork and soundtracks (by my piano hero Joe Hisaishi). You can kind of say I'm in love with Ghibli.

Doc. Martens because I will buy those eventually and I just came across this print. I love it. I've come across lots of floral doc martens but to buy some boots with lots of colors this expensive is a little risky. If I buy something this expensive it has to be wearable with anything and everything. Black and white should do that trick, no? :-D The print is so artsy <3
and a little sidenote: One of the things I have always wanted to have is the little angelbell from Kikujiro. Kikujiro is in my top three of favorite movies for sure and the moment that Kitano steals that angelbell from the two bikers to cheer up Masao is one of the most adorable movie moments in the history of movie moments. Unless I have it custom made, chances are very slim I'll ever find it. I don't think it's for sale anywhere.

Galaxy nails
I love nail art. I don't know if you've noticed but I love to do funky stuff with my nails. I've always loved nailpolish but after a while just painting my nails just wasn't enough. (sounds like I'm talking about some horrible addiction :-D) I started with really simple stuff like polkadotted nails, two or tricolored nails, and eventually tried out rainbow nails (going from purple to blue to turquoise to green to yellow to orange to red) with a tiny paintbrush and since then I'm absolutely hooked on nailart. I've done butterflies, The Who logo's, tiny triforces, flowers... not all as perfect as the next but I have had loads of fun doing it! I started looking for some good tutorials too and I found this lovely channel on youtube called 'cutepolish' (click here to visit her channel!) where you have all kinds of awesomness! Pikachu nails (which reminds me, I should totally do a pokeball naildesign!), Super Mario mushroom nails, adventure time nails (one of my favorite wacky cartoons), animal print, plaid... it's crazy and awesome. Even if you're a nailbiter or you hate putting on nailpolish it's a delight to see all the different designs. And, my favorite design of her, GALAXY NAILS. These are just brilliant, especially since november 9th was was Carl Sagan's birthday (R.I.P.) so I took a chance and tried it out. My nails might not be quite as perfect as hers but I was so so so pleased when I was ready with my nails. I kept staring at them. :-D It was a little time consuming but pretty easy!
okay, they're PRETTY awesome, right?! Tell me what you think of them and if you enjoy tinkering around with nailpolish too! Here's how I did it:
I started with some dark blue as a base, just gave it two coats and let it dry.
After it had dried completely I started to sponge on some white nailpolish where I wanted my 'galaxy' to be on my nails. (sponging = putting a little bit of nailpolish on a sponge and 'pressing' the sponge onto your nail so that you get a kind of cloudy design on your nails) I just tore a tiny bit of a foundation sponge and pressed it onto my nails with the sponge between tweezers.
You let the white dry completely and you sponge on a bit of bright yellow in the center of your galaxy. Let it dry and start the last color, some rosy pink. A thin coat on your sponge and again, try to center it as much as you can so you have a nice flow of colors.
If you think you've overdone the white a bit in the beginning you can sponge a bit of dark blue polish over some of the white, it'll make the cloudiness more realistic.
After that you can add some little stars by dotting tiny white dots in the galaxies and on your nails from varying sizes. I did it with a little toothpick and the tip of a dried out pen. You can add some silver glitters to finish your starry sky et voila! You got some bangin' space nails!
I just bought some opaque white nailpolish, shimmery golden olive green and shimmery rusty golden orange by the way. Catrice is my favorite nailpolish brand ever, they have gorgeous colors and the durability is excellent if you ask me.
