Rant: That Weird Chick

So this is one of my "weirdest" outfits in a while and I felt pretty awesome wearing it. I wear strange things from time to time and people stare at me. I get people staring and pointing and I wonder why I bother wearing strange things because people take appearances so seriously. I have these moments where I wonder why I wear "strange" things. Do I want attention? Do I want to make a statement? Do I feel like being a rebel or do I like shocking people? Am I one of those stereotypical young girls who's trying to "find" herself? Am I trying to say something meaningful when I'm, in fact, full of quasi-sense making bullshit? I question things and I wonder. After every time I think or talk about this, be it with my sister, Mr. Canon Girl or Jules, I come to the same conclusion: it doesn't really matter.

Whatever reasoning is behind what you wear, you convey a certain image to the outside world. That image may be that of a prep, a jock, a punk or a girl-next-door. People will judge you. You might judge you. But somewhere along the line you forget why you're actually wearing something: because you fucking FEEL like it. Sometimes I feel like wearing short skirts or a snakeskinprint skinny. People will feel the need to tell me that my legs are too thick to wear said clothing items. Because of that, I will start questioning why I wear it. Do I WANT people to say things like that? Am I provoking them, by having these legs and putting them in certain pants? Or am I just wearing PANTS? Life is made way too complicated, I can tell you that. The most important thing to realise is the following: it's all just opinions. I've been called "easter bunny", "ugly" and "cool girl" in the last couple of weeks by random people/kids on the street. I guess I have to live with the fact that, as long as I choose to come across as "extreme" in one way or another, people will react in extreme ways. A flock of insecure fourteen-year-old girls might call me ugly and point their fingers at me. A group of laughing twelve-year-old girls will scream out "check out that cool girl!" and smile at me.

Either way, after thinking about the art that is walking down the street in a society that tells people their opinions matter, I stand in front of my closet. I look at the colors, prints and take a look in the mirror. My hair needs shaving. My eyebrow might need piercing. When I want to close my closet doors, a bright green oversized shirt catches my eye and I feel like wearing it with something purple. That's how the magic happens, people. I don't have grand philosophies about my wardrobe choices. I don't think "Let's kick the world in the balls today!".

Sometimes, the chick in the weird clothing just liked the idea of putting green and purple together and called it a day.

Alice in Wonderland and a ranty-rant, because it's been too long

This is the last outfit I'll post with my semi short pink hair! Well, my hair will still be pink after cutting it but it'll be legit short! I always have the same kind of lame-o feeling a couple of days before I get my hair cut. Before making the appointment I have this moment of wondering whether I REALLY want to get it cut or not (a little piece of the girl who wants princess hair still resides somewhere in my brain) but once I made the hair-cutting official I start getting really irritated with my hair, almost to the point where I want to cut it myself.  I've been wearing it in a ratty little ponytail all week so I'll be hella happy to have it short again, tomorra. I'll take a little moment for this particular hairstyle because it has been awesome. You did well, hair. I salute you.

Now a little funny story, related to hair and a little rant on how people always seem to think that other people care about their personal opinions on things. In school, I was talking to this dude about dying hair. He's a goth so he dyes his hair black, quite the opposite of my bright pink 'do. He talked about the various things he wanted to do and, naturally, I talked about my hair related adventures, including my plans of getting the Robyn 'do with the option to do a mohawk. He looked at me, confused, saying "Really? You serious?" to which I replied "Uh, yeah?". He flat out told me the following: "It'll look terrible on you." I flat out told him this: "Well dude, I really do not care whether some random person may or may not find me attractive with a certain hairstyle because, frankly, there's more important stuff in the world to worry about. Also, I will cut my hair the way I like." I'd like to say that I stopped here but after that eloquent burn I added "TOO BAD, MOTHERFUCKAH" and walked away. I felt particularly bad ass that day. But being confronted by these kinds of things always raises a certain annoying point.

Why do people feel the need to tell other people what they should or should not do with their appearance? "Don't get that haircut, it'll look hideous on you.", "Take off that make-up babe, you look like a hooker.", "Those pants are VERY unflattering, you know.", "Are you sure you want to wear this?", "Those shoes are very... interesting.", we've all heard similar comments. I know I have. Somehow, people have the idea that they can tell you whatever they want and like, just because they can. I personally don't feel the need to tell someone that I think they look terrible when that is the case, unless it's a kind of "there's lipstick on your teeth" thing going on. In those kinds of situations you should be good person and tell them what's up. However, if they're wearing a certain type of thing that's not particularly your style, just don't say anything. Bitch to your friends if you want to, fine. No harm done. But just because you have a certain idea about what defines beauty doesn't mean that you possess the cold, hard truth on what beauty is. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is such a well-known saying but I barely know any people who actually listen to their own advice. I'm still a snot-nosed punk but at least I found out that NOTHING in life is written in concrete, so to speak. Whether it's an opinion on something, a dream about the future, the maximal capacity of our technology, it all changes. And I think we all agree that the idea on what is attractive changes a hell of a lot, looking at fashion history. We think the people in the eighties were silly mofo's with the shoulder pads and neon colors, even looking back at what we wore ten years ago makes us laugh our ass off. But back then, we thought we were stone cold foxes.

Apart from the whole "define beauty" discussion, I also just really get kind of pissed when people automatically assume that you wear certain things and do certain things solely to be attractive to men. Because us womenfolk have nothing better to worry about than landing some dude. I tell you what: I'd rather have my future guy know that I sometimes to crazy shit with my appearance. Otherwise he'll be in for a big shock everytime I dye my hair a different color. It's part of my personality. My future dude will love me, bald and pierced or long blonde braids and tattooed, for the delightfully crazy chick that I am. As he should. /rant

Now that I got that out of the way, pictures of my outfit are in place. The tights and earrings are two of my awesome christmas prezzies, I love them so much.

Dress: T2 Vintage
Sweater: Zara
Tights, Earrrings: Forever 21
Shoes: New Look
Ring: Claires

This is very soft and cutesy for my style nowadays but I felt so good in all these pretty colors. The soft hues and mary janes made me feel so sweet. Sometimes a girl just wants to twirl around in a pretty floral dress! Have a nice weekend and lots of luck to all of you with exams!

Preppy hippy and honking rant

I was very happy with this outfit, I rarely wear the shirt and sweater I'm wearing in these pictures while they're perfectly good clothes. To wear bright red I really have to be in the mood. I also just found a couple of shirts that my boyfriend bought a year or so ago, which he bought when he first lost weight. Now he lost even more weight and has to buy everything extra small (he's a naturally skinny dude, he just ate incredibly unhealthy for a long time and probably lost some babyfat too) I can wear the tops that he bought when he was still a small. When it comes to men's fashion I am always a bit shocked to see what they consider a size 'small'. I can basically drown in the men's small in the C&A (H&M has better fitted stuff, who would've thought?) and I have a large in most women's clothes. I also just realised why it is that I very often see skinny dudes on the street wearing their pants halfway/below their ass. They just don't have the right sizes! My boy finally got some good fitting pants in vintage shops (of all places! Vintage is just made for me and my loved ones :-D) and is now the proud owner of many well fitting levi's jeans... which he bought for 2 euro each... I ain't kidding folks, that stuff costs a hundred euro a piece and we have 6-7 pairs of them jeans for not even twenty euro altogether. Seriously, it's amazing. My boy and me have a lot of difficulty finding stuff that fits us nicely, for a normal/cheap budget especially, and we find it all in vintage shops. Clothing wise I'm totally set for colder days. When there are sales again, in my lovely T2, I might buy a nice jumper/sweater/cardigan but other than that I'm totally okay!

I also want to express my frustration with dickheads (excuse my language) who find it HIlARIOUS to honk at me while I'm taking pictures. I'm not sure WHY they honk, maybe because I'm a woman, maybe because they want to startle me and see if I drop my equipment worth something between one and two thousand euro and I had to save up all the money I ever had since I've been thirteen and a half to even make those things happen, maybe because they accidentally pushed the horn when they drove by me while driving 600 miles per hour (okay not that fast but you know what I mean, fucking cowards.). Seriously, if one of those douchebags will ever make me drop my camera (which is pretty impossible since I make a very very big deal of it to wear it around my neck at all times) I will find them and honk at them until they become deaf and than steal their money to buy my equipment back. WHY DO YOU HONK AT ME, ASSHOLE?! I'm trying to make my own fucking art, minding my own fucking business, you don't need to go MEEP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP everytime you drive by. PISS OFF. It's NOT fucking funny. Do you have any idea how irritating and startling it is to be completely 'in the zone', thinking of how you can make the lighting hit the leaf you're about to take a picture of more perfectly, slightly tilting the leaf a bit so it looks better with the other leaf that's gently swinging to the soft wind, thinking of how gorgeous the golden evening light is and how it reminds you of Zelda: Ocarina of time and how you'd like a gorgeous red horse with white manes like Epona to ride into the sunset and go find Kokiri forest to go live there forever when suddenly MEEP MEEP and your whole mindset and composition is completely fucked up! Okay. now my rant is done. I hope you can relate to my frustration. HAVE PEOPLE NO RESPECT FOR THE ARTS?! (I take most of my outfit pictures in my garden so I don't have to deal with those dickheads)

Now the outfit:

And thank you guys so much for the feedback on my last post, I think I'll be going for another earpiercing and after that I'll decide to go for another nosepiercing. I'm still liking the idea of one little stud in both of my nostrils but I'm not sure yet. Anyways, thank you!! Have a lovely day and may no one honk at you!
